U.N. ADMINISTRATIVE AND BUDGETARY ISSUES

Administrative and budgetary issues are cross-cutting to the whole United Nations’ activities spectrum. This section focuses on data relating to the Regular Budget of the Organization, the financing of Peace-Keeping Operations and the budgets of the International Tribunals and the Capital Master Plan (renovation of the United Nations Headquarters Complex). In the current biennium (2010-2011), Italy confirms its role as sixth major financial contributor to the U.N. budget.

It must be noted that the regular budget period differentiates from that of the peace-keeping budget. While the former lasts from 1st January to 31st December (with a biennial budget cycle), the latter covers the period from 1st July to 30th June (with an annual budget cycle). Administrative and budgetary issues are dealt with in the Fifth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly (link http://www.un.org/en/ga/fifth/index.shtml ), on the basis of the recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions and other budget-related expert bodies.
